The Lady Dannatt, MBE – Lord-Lieutenant of Norfolk

Lady Dannatt is Her Majesty the Queen’s personal representative in Norfolk and the first female to hold this most prestigious and historic post in the county. She was born near Norwich into a farming family and is a former High Sheriff of Norfolk, an appointment previously held by both her father and grandfather. Lady Dannatt is married to General The Lord Dannatt GCB CBE MC DL, the former Chief of the General Staff of the British Army and they have four married children and ten grandchildren. Whilst a military wife she gained a profound understanding and respect for all those who serve and their families and she is now Vice President of SSAFA (The Armed Forces Charity) and a former Deputy Chair of its adoption panel and President of the Army Widows Association. Lady Dannatt is also trained as a professional counsellor, latterly working at the Sue Lambert Trust with survivors of abuse before taking up her present Appointment. She is a Lay Canon of Norwich Cathedral and an active Patron of many county-based organisations.

Lady Dannatt says:

I am so pleased to be Patron of this great project bringing this wonderful, rare, building back to life. The inspiring story of how it was built in remembrance of the fallen, through public donations and veterans labour, drawing the village together after the War in a positive common purpose and then its being used to support the wellbeing of all ever since really resonated with me. The way the team is going about its task in a similar way, with the same purpose and with the support of the local community, so many years on makes it even more laudable.’
